In 2015, we became a Certified B Corporation, and today we are the largest U.S. winery certified as a B Corp. B Corps are for-profit companies that meet some of the most rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. In becoming a Certified B Corp, we joined a global movement alongside companies like Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, and Seventh Generation that seek to fulfill the B Corp mission of using business as a force for good.
As we map the road ahead, the B Corp framework provides us a clear, third-party-verified road map for how to take Fetzer Vineyards forward. The B Impact Assessment (BIA), which all B Corps undergo as part of the certification process, focuses on transparently assessing four key performance areas: Governance, Workers, Environment and Community. These tenets offer a framework for enhancing key impact areas of our business, allowing us to identify specific actions to improve our overall performance.
In 2021 we completed our latest BIA and were thrilled to receive a new score of 130.1, placing us among global B Corps ranked in the “Outstanding” category. This means we’ve improved our BIA score nearly 50 points since our first certification in 2015. And while we are pleased with our progress to date, we are constantly working to improve our overall impact and toward a better future for all.
