Bodega Trivento is the World’s No. 1 Best-selling Argentinian Wine for the Fourth Year in a Row

MENDOZA, Argentina, (June 25, 2024) — Bodega Trivento, certified B Corp winery, is thrilled to announce that it has been recognized as the world’s top-selling Argentinian wine for the fourth consecutive year. This acknowledgment comes by way of the 2023 report from IWSR Drinks Analysis, the preeminent global alcoholic beverage market research and trends firm. Anchored by a continued commitment to innovative winemaking techniques and sustainable business practices, Trivento continues to grow its presence in markets across the world.

Trivento initiated a comprehensive growth plan five years ago and has seen an 18% increase in volume and a 21% increase in value since then. As part of Trivento’s commercial strategy, the winery has widened its product mix to include robust investments in the premium and luxury categories with the Trivento Reserve, Golden Reserve and Eolo lines. Across the Trivento portfolio, the winery has established a distribution network spanning more than 60 markets globally.

“We are proud to see Bodega Trivento’s impact extend far beyond our home in Mendoza, Argentina,” says Marcos Jofré, CEO. “Domestic wine sales rose by 63% in 2023, and our other key markets, including the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Brazil, also saw significant growth.” Bodega Trivento is the second-highest netting sales brand within the Viña Concha y Toro family of wineries.

For years, Trivento’s continual investments in vineyard holdings and cutting-edge green technology have enabled the winery to achieve even greater efficiency in resource utilization as well as control over the quality of every single Trivento bottling. Trivento Eolo Malbec is the pinnacle of Trivento’s offerings, an exquisite single-vineyard bottling from century old vines in the heart of Luján de Cuyo. Since its launch, the wine has garnered acclaim from some of the world’s most renowned wine critics.

Trivento Reserve Malbec was the second-largest wine brand in the U.S. in 2023, and the winery’s impressive growth is continuing into 2024. According to a series of NielsenIQ Scantrack reports from the 52-week period ending Feb. 24, 2024, Trivento is the top Argentine wine brand in the British market and the Trivento Reserve Malbec claims the No. 1 spot in red wine market sales, considering all origins. Building on the winery’s success with red Malbec, Bodega Trivento revolutionized the popular category when it launched the Trivento Reserve White Malbec in 2019. The wine launched in the United States last year with the 2022 vintage in Florida, New York and Georgia—and immediately sold out. With the 2023 vintage, 16 additional states have opened distribution, production has scaled up to meet demand, and numerous other Argentinian wineries have since followed suit in producing white Malbecs of their own.

“American consumers have a strong connection with Trivento, and today it is the second-largest Argentinian wine brand in the premium segment in the U.S.,” said Rodrigo Maturana, President of Marketing for Viña Concha y Toro USA. “This impressive growth is a testament to Trivento’s innovative spirit, unwavering commitment to sustainability, and excellence in winemaking. As we continue to expand Trivento’s distribution stateside, we look forward to bringing these beloved wines to more and more consumers.”

One of the largest B Corp-certified organizations in the Argentinian agricultural sector, Bodega Trivento continually commits to sustainable agricultural, vinicultural, and social and economic practices across its three production facilities. As a result of this ongoing work, the winery recently advanced its voluntary commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 10 years, shifting the goal date from 2050 to 2040. Guided by the principles of sustainable innovation, the winery plans to continue infrastructure development at the winery’s home base in Maipú, Argentina, building upon its robust gastronomic and hospitality programming as well as wine portfolio.

Veteran Bonterra Organic Estates Winemaker Announces Retirement

Jeff Cichocki stepping down at the end of June 2024.

HOPLAND, CALIFORNIA June 25, 2024 — Bonterra Organic Estates, the largest Regenerative Organic Certified® winery in the United States, announced today that veteran winemaker Jeff Cichocki will retire at the end of June, after 17 years with the company.

“We could not be more grateful to Jeff for his many years of hard work, strong leadership, and exceptional wines,” said John Kane, general manager of Bonterra Organic Estates. “As a winemaker who grew up through the cellar, Jeff has an incredible gut feel for winemaking decisions. You can see him putting a blend together in his mind – the 10,000-hour rule in action. His talent and passion will be sorely missed.”

An Environmental Studies major at Sonoma State University, Cichocki began his career in environmental planning in Sonoma County but soon found himself spending time in the wine cellar. Beginning as an apprentice at Mill Creek Winery in Healdsburg, he moved up to Cellar Master at Matanzas Creek Winery in Bennett Valley, then on to Cakebread Cellars in Napa Valley, B.R. Cohn in Sonoma Valley, and Jeriko Estate Winery in Hopland, not far from Bonterra Organic Estates’ iconic McNab Ranch. In 2007, Cichocki successfully merged his passion for environmentalism with his winemaking career by joining Bonterra Organic Estates, a leading winery committed to regenerative organic agriculture practices and environmental stewardship.

During Cichocki’s tenure with Bonterra Organic Estates, he was instrumental in developing the winery’s diverse portfolio of award-winning wines crafted from organically grown grapes. Bolstered by growing demand for organic wine, the Bonterra brand has more than doubled in size since Cichocki joined the company, achieving a production of half a million cases in 2023. This remarkable growth underscores the exceptional quality of wines crafted under his guidance.

“Our winemaking team at Bonterra is a great group of passionate individuals who share a deep commitment to organic and Regenerative Organic Certified practices,” says Cichocki. “I will miss being part of this collaborative group every day, but I’m confident they will continue to produce exceptional wines that contribute positively to the world.”

Recently, Bonterra Organic Estates announced powerhouse winemaker Margaret Leonardi-Pruett will helm the brand’s beloved Bonterra Collection as Senior Winemaker, beginning with the 2024 vintage. She will collaborate with Senior Winemaker Sebastian Donoso in fueling the brand’s burgeoning momentum.

Bonterra Organic Estates Introduces New Winemaking Team Alongside Reimagined Label

America’s Favorite Organically Farmed Wine Enters Next Era Amid Exponential Growth

HOPLAND, Calif., (June 12, 2024) – Bolstered by 16 percent growth in the first quarter of 2024 across a diverse portfolio of organically farmed wines1, Bonterra Organic Estates today announced powerhouse winemaker Margaret Leonardi-Pruett will helm the brand’s beloved Bonterra Collection as Senior Winemaker, beginning with the 2024 vintage.

Following the retirement of celebrated Bonterra winemaker Jeff Cichocki, Leonardi-Pruett joins Sebastian Donoso in fueling the brand’s burgeoning momentum. Donoso, the esteemed winemaker behind Bonterra’s award-winning Single Vineyard Collection, adds the brand’s Regenerative Organic Certified® Estate Collection to his repertoire, while viticulture expert and climate-smart farming advocate, Joseph Brinkley, continues to oversee vineyard operations for Bonterra.

Building on a Legacy

“I am thrilled to join Sebastian in stewarding a heritage brand that places so much value on how we impact the environment and communities,” said Leonardi-Pruett. “Working with organic grapes from vineyards throughout the state of California gives me the opportunity to express the pure quality that organic farming affords us.”

To this new role, Leonardi-Pruett brings nearly 15 years of experience crafting award-winning wines for a diverse array of celebrated brands. She joined the company in 2015 and most recently served as head winemaker for Fetzer, becoming the first woman to lead the brand’s winemaking team in its more than 50-year history. Donoso, whose winemaking career spans more than 17 years, joined Bonterra Organic Estates in 2017. He previously crafted small-lot wines from organic vineyards at Campovida and Saracina wineries in Mendocino County.

Both Leonardi-Pruett and Donoso bring a wealth of expertise and a collaborative spirit to their individual roles, acting as a sounding board–and a tasting palate–for one another, and inspiring new ideas and innovations.

“I’m excited about the invigorating energy Margaret brings to Bonterra, and I look forward to working closely with her on crafting our portfolio of Bonterra wines,” said Donoso, recently elevated to Senior Winemaker at Bonterra Organic Estates. “I am especially passionate about our estate-grown fruit, because it gives me the opportunity to accentuate the nuances that make inland Mendocino County unique.”

The Next Generation of Bonterra Packaging

As Bonterra embarks on its next chapter, consumer interest in organically farmed wine is soaring. Amid a downturn in conventional wine sales (-0.9 percent), sales of organic wine grew an impressive 27.9 percent in the first quarter of 20242, indicating consumer preferences are shifting toward values-aligned brands like Bonterra–which aptly means Good Earth. And as consumers increasingly recognize wine made from organic grapes as an integral part of a broader farm-to-table movement, Bonterra is poised to continue its impactful role in the category’s growth; the brand is accelerating with a velocity change of 13 percent3.

As consumers evolve toward more sustainable wine options, Bonterra is reimagining its label for the Bonterra Collection, bringing a fresh and modern aesthetic to the brand’s longstanding organic ethos. In addition to its contemporary block-letter logo, the next-generation label heralds Bonterra’s commitment to promoting biodiversity as a fundamental tenet of organic grape growing. Hand-drawn illustrations of specific beneficial insects and birds found on Bonterra’s estate–matched to each varietal–spotlight the invaluable contributions of wildlife to the vineyard ecosystem.

“Our new packaging reflects our deep roots in environmental stewardship and our optimistic outlook toward the future of climate-smart farming and eco-minded winemaking,” said Rachel Newman, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Bonterra Organic Estates. “This pivotal moment marks the start of a new era in Bonterra’s nearly 40-year history, and gives us the opportunity to connect in a meaningful way with consumers who share our values.”
